Position: Volunteer Policy Advocate
Committee: Ending Violence Against Women
Location: Austin, TX (Remote and In-Person Opportunities)
Time Commitment: 5-30 hours per month

About Austin NOW: The Austin chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) is dedicated to advancing gender justice and equality for all women. The Ending Violence Against Women Committee focuses on addressing systemic issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and gender-based violence, advocating for comprehensive policies that protect survivors and promote justice.
Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and committed Policy Advocate to join our Ending Violence Against Women Committee. In this role, you will help track relevant legislation, coordinate advocacy efforts, and work to influence local and state policies that support survivors of violence.
Key Responsibilities

Monitor Legislation: Keep track of relevant state and local legislative developments affecting issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and gender-based violence.

Policy Analysis: Analyze the potential impact of proposed laws and identify key areas for advocacy.

Advocacy Coordination: Lead letter-writing campaigns, petitions, and calls to action to engage the community and lawmakers on critical issues.

Community Engagement: Work with local partners and stakeholders to amplify our advocacy efforts and ensure survivor voices are heard.

Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Committee Lead on policy developments and advocacy progress.
Qualifications

Passion for Social Justice: A strong commitment to gender equity and ending violence against women.

Research Skills: Ability to analyze legislative language and summarize key points for advocacy efforts.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with community members and legislators.

Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with committee members and work towards shared goals.

Previous Experience (Preferred): Experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or legislative tracking is a plus, but not required.
